My name is Thomas C. Phillips II.  I was born in Louisville Kentucky and I grew up in Silver Spring Maryland. I graduated from Towson State University in 1997 just before they dropped “State” from the school’s name. Go Tigers! After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications, I worked in TV news for 2 years before deciding to go into sales. I tried selling TV’s, insurance, gym memberships and more. Finally, in 2004 I discovered the wonderful world of mortgage financing. That was it for me. Aside from God and family, there is nothing more satisfying for me than helping my clients to achieve the American dream of home ownership by helping them to obtain the best loan possible for their situation.  

I am very happily married to my best friend and lovely wife Jobita and we live in Hanover, Maryland with our cat, Sugar Foots. In my free time I enjoy trying out various international foods like Thai, Ethiopian, Indian, Caribbean, Latino/Hispanic, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Korean and more. Aside from feeding my “foodie” habit I also enjoy traveling, watching documentaries, exercising at the gym and Bible study.

When it comes to providing a mortgage for your home, my goal is to identify your needs and offer a mortgage solution that meets your specific requirements with a seamless, transparent and stress-free process. No one can guarantee the world’s lowest rate and by the time you find out who has the lowest rate they won’t have the lowest rate anymore. However, I promise to work very hard to provide very competitive rates and fees when you trust me to handle your mortgage.  I always tell my clients that finding a good loan officer is like finding a good mechanic to fix your car. It doesn’t matter what company they work for. Some people want to overcharge you and sell you things that you don’t need. That’s not the way I do business. Once you find a person that you trust will look out for your best interests and not their own pockets, you should stick with that person. My goal is to earn your business by earning your trust. I want to be your trusted mortgage advisor for life. I will help you to purchase a home and I will also help you to refinance down the road if it’s in your best interest to do so.  


Caliber offers countless mortgage programs. I am always learning about new programs and guidelines to help customers with unique mortgage needs. However, of all the different programs we offer, my expertise is in the following areas: 

Government Insured/Guaranteed Loans: These include FHA, VA and USDA. These agencies do not lend money. Mortgage companies like Caliber Home Loans lend money. With these programs the government “insures” or “guarantees” the loan to protect the lender should you ever default on your loan.  

  • FHA mortgages allow you to buy a home with just 3.50% down.  
  • VA mortgages allow US Military Vets to buy a home with NO down payment. 
  • USDA Mortgages allow you to buy a home in rural areas with NO down payment. 
  • FHA 203(k) loans allow you to get funds to both purchase and upgrade your dream home. You can also refinance and renovate your existing home.  


Conventional Loans: A conventional mortgage is one that is not guaranteed or insured by federal government agencies such as the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Administration (VA) or the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Conventional mortgages can either be conforming or non-conforming. Conforming mortgages follow the guidelines of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Non-conforming mortgages or JUMBO loans exceed the maximum loan amount required by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.  




The first reason that comes to mind is my commitment to providing excellent customer service. Loan officers at some of the mega banks work on 20 – 30 loans per month. I work with 5-10 clients per month. Therefore, I have more time to give your loan the focus and attention that you deserve. If you are a first time home buyer I will simplify everything and hold your hand throughout the entire process.  


Secondly Caliber does everything in house. We are not a broker. This means from start to finish we process and underwrite your loan. Real Estate agents especially love us because of our competitive rates and transparent underwriting and processing platform.
